Out of the Mouth of Pots, 2000, 393 p., 171 fig. n.b., cartes, br. -

The objects deposited within Cypriot Bronze Age burials are argued to have performed a symbolic as well as functional role. With examples taken from the University of Canterbury's Logie Collection, as well as others, Washbourne discusses the figurines and vessels found within burials, their social, religious and ritual significance and interconnections between different areas of the Near East, Anatolia and the Aegean. She argues that while some vessels were symbolic or agents of re-birth, the so called `Plank figurines' may be associated with the Near Eastern fertility goddess Inanna-Ishtar.
