The symposium contributions deal with the changing production, processing, use and significance of pitch and tar [Czarnowski / Neubauer, Weiner, Oettel, Böttcher, Prehn, three times Kurzweil / Todtenhaupt], pottery for boiling tar [Voß, Böttcher], wood as a raw material for energy, chemistry and metallurgy [Osteroth], the possibility of archaeological and palaeobotanical statements on tar [Ruthenberg, Brande / Schumann], Antique texts [Locher] as well as the words "Pech" and "Teer" in German usage [Pietsch]. The other articles deal with a gamma radiographic investigation of Bronze Age daggers with a solid hilt [Wüstemann], an Early Dynastic figurine head of lead bronze [Strommenger], blade repairs on a LBA sword with a solid hilt [Born, Hansen], belt buckles and suspension loops from the Black Sea region [Brentjes], a bronze bucket with dolphin attachments from Golice, Poland [Wielowiejski, Riederer] as well as with the conservation of wet wood by means of polyethyleneglycol [Born, Zimmermann].
