This book accompanies an exhibition of Egyptian objects on loan from the collections of the British Museum which tours eight American cities in 2001. A historical overview and a discussion of aspects of Egyptian art by Edna R Russmann are followed by a history of the forming of the British Museum collections by T.G.H. James. The majority of the book comprises a catalogue of 144 objects arranged chronologically, includfree-standing sculpture, relief sculpture, papyri, ostraca, jewellery, cosmetic objects and funerary equipment.
