Hunters of the Golden Age - The Mid Upper Paleolithic of Eurasia, 30 000 - 20 000 BP, 2000, 420 p., nbr. ill. -
The period 30 000-20 000 can be called the 'Golden Age' of hunter gatherers for a variety of reasons, spelled out in great detail by the 37 contributors of this volume. In this period we find the first unambiguous burials after the Middle Paleolithic, the earliest bona fide habitation structures and an unprecedented sophistication in raw material requirements. The volume has contributions on ecology, dating and the physical anthropology of the Mid Upper Palaeolithic population, as well as papers dealing with archaeological issues. It is the 3rd and final volume in a series initiated by the European Science Foundation Network on the Palaeolithic Occupation of Europe.
